Indian grapplers put together a memorable show at Siam Cup 2022 in Thailand. 8 medals were secured by Indian grapplers at the event including three gold medals.
Grapplers from the Institute of Jiu-Jitsu came home with six medals from the event. Kathit Sondhi secured Gold Medals in the Juvenile Boys No-Gi Medium Heavy Category and in the Juvenile Boys Gi Medium Heavy category.
The third gold medal for the team came thanks to Vijay Krishnan in the Male Gi Master 1 Light Featherweight category.
Debojit Dasgupta secured a silver medal in the Male GI Featherweight category while Natasha Magender secured the second silver for IJJ in the Female GI Light Featherweight category.
The lone bronze that the Institute of Jiu-Jitsu won came thanks to Arvind Krishna in the Male Gi Medium Heavy category.
Institute of Jiu-Jitsu finished 14th in the overall standings in the tournament which had more than 65 teams competing. The top position of the standings went to Tinguinha Thailand as the team won 17 Gold Medals, 14 Silver Medals and 11 Bronze Medals.
Based out of Bangalore in India, the Institute of Jiu Jitsu has been a force to reckon with in the domestic circuit and the team has made their mark on the international scene as well with the latest success story coming out of the Siam Cup 2022. On the same weekend, the Institute of Jiu-Jitsu team secured the second position at the Strangle Open Bengaluru event which happened in Bangalore.
India’s Priya Sharma, who represented Fairtex Training Centre at the event, secured two bronze medals out of the three weight categories that she competed in. Priya, who came off her recent MMA win at the Lumpinee Stadium, won Bronze in the -64 KG Female GI category and Female Absolute Gi Masters Open weight category.
She missed out on the Bronze in the female open weight Absolute GI category as well and settled for the fourth position in the standings.
