Indian Boxer Sabari J successfully defended the WBC India Welterweight title at the Rotary Boxing - Pune Fight Night Event which happened last weekend.
The event was organized by the Rotary Boxing Club at the Indoor Boxing Hall at MIT ADT University in Pune. Sanctioned by the Indian Boxing Council, the event had a long list of exciting fights including the WBC India Super Featherweight bout between Chandni Mehra and Muskan.
Fighting out of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Sabari went into the fight with a professional MMA record of 7-1 to his name. Sabari started his professional MMA career back in 2020 with a fight against Karthik Sathish. Although he suffered a loss in his debut, he went on to build a seven-fight undefeated run after this.
Sabari captured the inaugural WBC India Welterweight title in 2021 when he outclassed Akashdeep Singh. After this, he secured two more international wins before going up against Lalramfela.
Hailing from Mizoram, HC Lalramfela came into the fight with a record of 4-1 to his name. He started his career with a 4-fight undefeated run and suffered his only loss to fellow Mizo Boxing star Vanlalawmpuia.
The fight between Sabari and Lalramfela went the complete distance and it was the performance of Sabari that stood out for the judges. The judges announced a decision win for Sabari in the end with a score of 79-73, 79-73, 80-72.
With the win, Sabari improved his professional MMA record to 8-1 and added a successful title defence to his resume.
In another WBC India title fight that happened on the card, Chandni Mehra won the WBC India Super Featherweight title belt by outclassing Muskan. Chandni had a comfortable win over her fellow Indian boxer and took home the win via a unanimous decision.
