India Secures Six Boxing Medals at Asian Games, Three Boxers Reach Finals

India’s boxing contingent has already surpassed its medal tally from the previous Asian Games, securing six medals from 11 entries at the 2026 Asian Games, with three boxers still in contention for gold.

India has secured three bronze medals through Narender Berwal, Priya Ghanghas and Kapil Pokhariya, while Ankush Panghal, Parveen Hooda and Lovlina Borgohain have advanced to the finals, guaranteeing the country at least three silver medals.

The six-medal haul has come from a smaller contingent than the previous edition. India had won four medals from 13 categories at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

Lovlina was the latest Indian boxer to book a place in the final, edging Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova 3-2 in a split decision in the women’s 75-kilogram semifinal. The Olympic bronze medalist became the first Indian woman boxer to reach back-to-back Asian Games finals.

She joined Parveen and Ankush, who had secured their places in the finals on Tuesday.

Parveen defeated China’s Li Shu 5-0 in the women’s 65-kg semifinal, while Ankush produced one of India’s biggest wins of the Games by beating Uzbekistan’s reigning 75-kg world champion Fazliddin Erkinboev 4-1 in the men’s 80-kg semifinal.

The results mean India has three boxers fighting for gold medals, with the country assured of six medals overall.

The three bronze medals were secured after semifinal defeats. Narender lost 0-5 to Kazakhstan’s reigning world champion Aibek Oralbay in the men’s 90-plus-kg category, while Priya was beaten 1-4 by China’s Yang Chengyu in the women’s 60-kg semifinal.

Kapil also finished with bronze on his Asian Games debut after a 1-4 defeat to Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullaev in the men’s 90-kg semifinal.

For Priya and Kapil, the medals marked successful Asian Games debuts, while Narender secured his second consecutive Asian Games bronze.

India’s boxing campaign is therefore guaranteed to finish with at least six medals, with three of those medals still having the opportunity to change colour in the finals. The three finalists also give India its strongest boxing medal position at the Games since 2010, when two Indian boxers reached the finals.

With the gold-medal bouts still to come, India’s boxing contingent has already bettered its performance from Hangzhou while competing across fewer categories.
