IMMAF Youth World Championship 2022: India finish with 5 Medals at the event

Team India finished with five medals at the 2022 IMMAF Youth World Championships. The team secured 1 Silver and 4 Bronze Medals at the championship which was held in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

India sent a strong contingent of 15 athletes for the event with 9 female athletes and 6 male athletes. The nation opened its account on Day 1 itself and secured three bronze medals on the first day.

Avani Naithani also secured the first win for the country on the platform when she outclassed fellow Indian Durgashree Gejjiganahalli Murthy in the Female Youth C 40 kg category. Both Avani and Durgashree secured bronze medals.

The third bronze medal for the country came thanks to Jagvi Pardeshi who fought in the Youth C 37 KG category.

On Day 2, Praggya Khanikar Fighting in the Female Youth B -48 Category clinched Bronze Medal to make it four medals for the country. Palak Nag completed the campaign for the nation by securing a silver medal in the Female Youth A Lightweight category. Palak went up against Citlali Perez of the United States in the finals and delivered a good performance even though the result was adjudged against her.

Three wins for the country in the IMMAF Youth World Championship

India had three wins at the World Championship. The first win came thanks to Avani Naithani as she secured a decision win over Durgashree Gejjiganahalli Murthy.

The second win came via Tarshit Yalamanchili in the Youth A Strawweight category. Tarshit Yalamanchili produced a dominant performance against Ali Alyaarbi of UAE but unfortunately, could not secure a medal and finished fifth in the standings.

Aranjot Kaur, who competed in the Youth A Bantamweight category for females, secured the third win for India on the last day of the championship.

Aranjot, who started her career in Amateur MMA, had transitioned to Youth MMA for the tournament as per guidance from the MMA India Federation President Sharif Bapu. She put on a good performance on all three of her matches and secured a win against Allison Keenan of the United States of America. Aranjot finished fifth in her division.

All Medals in the Female Divisions

All the medals for Team India in the IMMAF Youth World Championship came in the female categories. India had sent 9 female athletes for the world championship and five athletes came back with the medal when two out of three wins for the nation also came in the female category.
