IMMAF Youth World Championship: Praggya Khanikar wins medal for India on Day 2

The lone medal for India on Day 2 of the IMMAF Youth World Championship 2022 came thanks to Praggya Khanikar of Assam. Fighting in the Female Youth B -48 Category, Praggya put up a good performance in all her three fights despite suffering losses.

The youngster initially went up against Asia Rialmo of the United States in the opening round and went the complete distance before suffering a decision loss. In the second bout, Liubov Karaush of Ukraine managed to get the better of Praggya with a TKO finish when Nuha Shah of South Africa submitted Praggya in the match that followed.

Despite the unfortunate results, the Indian managed to be in the medal column and secured the fourth bronze medal for India in the event.

India’s Zaid Bhat was also in action at the event on Day 2 and suffered losses in his fight. Zaid suffered a submission loss in his first fight against Ivan Berdysh of Ukraine when he went the distance against German Gildemann of Estonia and Torin Riddoch of Wales. Zaid suffered losses in both the fights despite putting forward a good effort.

Akshita Shrivastava, who was the third Indian fighter in action on Day 2, suffered a loss to Gioia Massaroni of Team Italy. Akshita went the distance with her Italian counterpart but the judges ruled the fighter in favor of the Italian. Prior to this, Akshita had produced a good effort against Taylor Ellis of Team USA as well before suffering a decision loss.

All Medals in Female Categories

India has so far won four bronze medals at the 2022 IMMAF Youth World Championships and all the medals have come in the female categories. On Day 1, India secured three bronze medals at the event with the likes of Avani Naithani, Durgashree Murthy, and Jagvi Pardeshi securing the medals. On Day 2, Praggya Khanikar secured another bronze to make it four bronze medals for India at the event. The lone win in the tournament also came in the female category with Avani Naithani securing the same.
