2022 IMMAF Youth World Championship: India secure 3 medals on Day 1

The Indian MMA team secured three medals on Day 1 of the 2022 IMMAF Youth World Championship in Abu Dhabi. The team secured three medals thanks to Avani Naithani, Durgashree Gejjiganahalli Murthy and Jagvi Pardeshi.

Girls make a mark for India on Day 1

The first and only win of the day came thanks to Avani Naithani who got a decision win against fellow Indian Durgashree Gejjiganahalli Murthy in the Female Youth C 40 kg category. Prior to this, Avani had produced an excellent performance against Valentyna Khanenko of Ukraine where she enjoyed top control for the most part of the fight despite the decision going against her.

Avani suffered a submission loss in her third fight but secured the Bronze Medal nevertheless. Durgashree, on the other hand, also finished with a bronze medal and put-up good efforts in her fight.

The third medal for India came thanks to Jagvi Pardeshi who fought in the Youth C 37 KG category for females. Jagvi also delivered a good performance but could not add a win to her resume. Theeksha Bharuni and Aryan Raj were the other Indian fighters that were in action during the event on Day 1 for India.
