When he faces up against the recently minted ONE bantamweight world champion Fabricio Andrade, Stephen Loman intends to rely on his wrestling skills.
At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video last month, Andrade won his first ONE global championship by defeating John "Hands of Stone" Lineker in the main event's highly entertaining contest.
After a fourth-round torrent of blows that caused Lineker's corner to declare defeat just before the start of the fifth round, "Wonder Boy" went on to win.
Speaking to MMA Superfan, Loman noted that he is planning to use his wrestling and grappling to his advantage when the fight comes.
The star player for Team Lakay will enter the prospective matchup unbeaten in the Circle. The biggest win of 'The Sniper's' career came in November at ONE on Prime Video 4, when he defeated former ONE bantamweight world champion Bibiano 'The Flash' Fernandes by unanimous decision. Before to that, he had defeated Yusup Saadulaev and Shoko Sato.
“This, of course, my takedown won’t be missing in my arsenal when we fight. It’s always going to be my wrestling and then my ground control,” he said in the interview (h/t Sportskeeda)
Loman also talked about the height difference between him and Andrade.
“Yeah, I fought someone as tall as Fabricio before back when I was in Brave. Frans Mlambo, I think he was about 5’9”, pretty tall. He’s the tallest fighter I’ve ever faced and yeah it was a bit difficult fighting him. But I got the win in those fights,” he added.
Interestingly, Loman will be heading into the fight on the back of the recent shakeup in Team Lakay which saw the departures of names like Eduard Folayang, Joshua Pacio and Kevin Belingon.
