Deiveson Figueiredo stopped Joseph Benavidez in the main event of Norfolk in an exciting fight that delivered while it lasted.
After a high-octane first round, Benavidez suffered a nasty cut on his head in the second round after an accidental head butt. The cut left Benavidez in a sensitive situation which Figueiredo took advantage of by landing a vicious knockout blow.
In the co-main event of the night, Felicia Spencer stopped Zarah Fairn dos Santos to put her name into the Featherweight title contention. Spencer was dominant from the start itself and only took under four minutes to get the job done and take home a TKO stoppage win.
The much-awaited showdown between Ion Cutelaba and Magomed Ankalaev had an anti-climactic end after the referee stopped the fight while both fighters were standing and trading. Although Cutelaba was wobbling a bit, it seemed that he was completely in the fight while the referee felt otherwise and gave Ankalaev the win. Prior to the start of the fight, both fighters went physical when Bruce Buffer was introducing as well which had raised the expectations sky-high.
Megan Anderson possibly secured a shot at the Women’s Featherweight title as well by knocking out Norma Dumont Viana in the first round. Champion Amanda Nunes noted that she was impressed by both the fighters and that it is up to Dana White to decide who gets the title shot first. Elsewhere, Grant Dawson got another submission win as he managed to submit Darrick Minner in the opener of the main card via a rear-naked choke.
