Kolkata is set to witness a huge flyweight showdown this weekend as hometown hero Ishan ‘The Boxman’ Das will be locking horns with Manipur’s Bonjovi in the main event of Soul of Warriors 1.

The event, which is scheduled to take place at the Stadel Hotel in Kolkata on March 1, will mark Ishan’s return to the MMA scene after his recent outing at the Asian Muay-Thai Championship which happened a couple of months back.

And returning in Kolkata is an ideal scenario for Ishan as well although he says that he just loves to fight no matter where the fight is happening.

Ishan Das: My fans, who love me, always wants to see my fight. They love to see my fighting style. So they obviously want to see my victory and also want to see a good fight I think and I just love to fight and showcase my skills in front of everyone, no matter what is the city or country. Actually, I just want to win every single heart out there.

Standing in his way this time would be Manipur’s Bonjovi who is currently sitting on a three-fight winning streak. Ishan does acknowledge the skillset of his opponent but feels that Bonjovi would need a miracle to get the win in the main event.

Ishan Das: He is a good fighter, unbeaten and back to back 3 fight winning streak, he has good striking skills and he can grapple also. So I know he is a good competition for me. He is good but I'm best so I know without any miracle he can't beat me

Currently ranked eighth in Tapology’s Flyweight rankings for Asia South, Ishan notes that he will be looking to climb up the rankings soon and added that he does not care who he will be fighting next.

Ishan Das: I'm very happy to see the ranking but at the same time I'm not so happy because I want to see myself as a No1 fighter, so to get this No1 position, I can fight any one ,I don't care who the hell he is, I believe that I have potential to be the best in the world, so I have to be focused and work very hard to achieve this.

Apart from the main event between Ishan and Bonjovi, Soul of Warriors will feature the following fights as well:

  • Main Event - Ishan vs Bon Jovi - (54kg)
  • Co-Main Event - Alfan Mansoori vs Jagjeet Singh (77kg)
  • Mid Card - Monika Ghag vs Ritika  (54kg)
  • Mid Card - Kiran Ghag vs Jasper Lalkawmsang (57kg)
  • Mid Card - Pavan vs Jenus Laishram (58kg)
  • Mid Card - Firoz Khan vs Krishna Kamat (55kg)
