Indian boxer Simranjit Kaur bowed out of the Tokyo Olympics after suffering a defeat to Sudaporn Seesondee of Thailand in the Round of 16 of the Lightweight Category.

Simranjit started off the first round by occupying the center of the ring and landed some good shots aided by her swift movement. She was the one moving forward throughout the round when Seesondee was counter-punching on her back foot. The backfoot strategy of Seesondee is what caught the eye of the judges that gave her the round. Simranjit pushed for a comeback in the second knowing that she had lost the first round when Seesondee built resistance and continued the round on her back foot. This once again gave her the round. With two rounds in her pocket, Seesondee comfortably steered through the third round as well to take home the decision win with a score of 5-0.

Last day, Mary Kom bowed out of the Olympics after a close defeat to Ingrit Valencia of Colombia in the Round of 16. It was a close 3-2 score through which Kom lost the match and she had expressed her displeasure in the judging post the match as well.

Satish Kumar progressed into the quarter-finals of the Super Heavyweight category with a win over Ricardo Brown of Jamaica via a split decision. Lovlina Borgohain and Pooja Rani had also secured their spots in the quarter-finals earlier after securing wins in their respective matches.

Vikas Krishan, Ashish Kumar, and Manish Kaushik, meanwhile, bowed out of the tournament when Amit Panghal will be in action in the coming days. Vikas, who was in action on Day 1 went down to SQM Okazawa of Japan in the Round of 32 when Manish lost to Luke McCormack of Great Britain.

Top seed Amit Panghal will be in action on Saturday 31 July 2021 at 7:30 AM IST when he fights Yuberjen Martinez of Colombia in the round of 16.
