Marcus Almeida hopes to make it three mixed martial arts wins in a row when he steps back into the ONE Championship Circle at ONE 157: Petchmorakot vs. Vienot on Friday, 20 May, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Standing in his way will be fellow Brazilian heavyweight Hugo Cunha, who’ll look to test his impressive ground game against the 17-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion.

Almeida has looked unstoppable in his ONE tenure so far, scoring two first-round submission wins in a row by taking out Anderson Silva in his debut and then finishing Kang Ji Won two months later.

The BJJ legend has won nearly 30 gold medals in grappling and has implemented his craft to perfection inside the Circle.

Though he’s happy with the success he has found, "Buchecha" remains focused on developing his all-around skill set and becoming a true mixed martial artist.

“I just keep training, not just for one opponent, but I’m training to get better. I’m training to keep evolving. Stoic mindset and let’s get better and be ready for the next one, whoever it is. I’m training with the best guys in the world, in my opinion,” he said.

“Because I have a lot of heavyweight training partners in American Top Team, and I have all the support of the Evolve MMA team as well. I’m training with those guys every day, it’s been perfect.”

Cunha has a 6-1 record, with all his wins coming via a finish. However, his most recent performance resulted in the first loss of his professional career, so he’ll be hungry to leave that in the past by slowing down “Buchecha’s” hype train.

This intriguing heavyweight mixed martial arts tussle will be a difficult challenge for both men. But overall, Almeida is just happy to be getting more experience on the global stage.

“I hope I can fight like three or four times. I don’t have to cut weight so it’s for me it’s just to show up and fight. So I hope three-four fights, for sure,” he said.
