On Friday, 20 May, ONE Championship will showcase its latest event live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium. ONE 157: Petchmorakot vs. Vienot features 16 bouts of thrilling action and is headlined by two World Championship showdowns.
With over a dozen fights across mixed martial arts, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and submission grappling, there are endless reasons for fight fans to tune in – and here are the top three.
#1 The ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship Is On The Line
The evening’s headliner promises to be a striking affair for the ages as ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Petchmorakot Petchyindee puts his strap on the line against French striking superstar Jimmy Vienot.
Vienot is a former Lumpinee World Champion – a rare feat for Westerners. In fact, when Vienot won the prestigious belt, he became only the fourth non-Thai to do so. And this alone makes his ONE debut unmissable.
Petchmorakot has been wildly successful in his time in the Circle as well, defending the World Title three times. But Vienot is hungry for a chance to make a statement in his ONE debut by snatching the gold from the striking veteran.
Both men are dangerous strikers who can utilize every skill that “the art of eight limbs” offers. So, this bout promises to be a barnburner.
#2 The ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix Begins
The inaugural ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix will bring together eight of the finest strikers in the world, including ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon and top-ranked contender Jonathan Haggerty.
The first round of the tournament will go down on 20 May and feature four fights guaranteed to deliver non-stop action.
With veterans taking on debutants, and well-known faces squaring off against each other, the Grand Prix quarterfinals will surely throw up a couple of surprises to keep fans talking.
#3 The Ruotolo Brothers’ Debut
American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sensations Kade and Tye Ruotolo will both make their ONE ramp walks for the first time at ONE 157. The twin brothers square off with some tough competition under submission grappling rules as well.
Kade takes on former ONE Lightweight World Champion Shinya Aoki, while Tye faces fourth-ranked featherweight contender Garry Tonon in the hopes of starting their careers in The Home of Martial Arts with a bang.
