Former UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is all set to be cage side at ONE Championship in January. Khabib’s teammate Saygid Izagakhmaev will be making his promotional debut at ONE Championship: Heavy Hitters on January 14, 2022, and Khabib has noted that he will be cornering Izagakhmaev at the event.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Khabib said that Singapore is a country that he wanted to visit for a long time.
“I’m going to be with him in Singapore and it’s going to be my first time there. I’ve been almost everywhere around the world and Singapore is one of the countries where I want to go,” he said.
Izagakhmaev currently holds a professional MMA record of 19-2 to his name and is on a two-fight winning streak having fought in Khabib’s Eagle Fighting Championship. Prior to this, he has also fought in UAE Warriors as well.
Speaking about Izagakhmaev, Khabib opened up about the style that his teammate might bring to the ONE Circle.
“I grew up with Saygid the last like 15 years. He began training with my father when he was very young. I know him very, very well and we have a little bit similar fighting style after training together for so long. Grappling, wrestling, clinching, how we move and use our body and our hips on the ground, we do a lot that is similar. He’s a little bit taller than me and has very good boxing, with real good technique. His elbow and knee, they’re very good, too. So we have a similar base, but he is different from me, too,” Khabib added.
Izagakhmaev will be going up against James Nakashima who is coming off losses against Shinya Aoki and Kiamrian Abbasov. Nakashima will be looking to bounce back strongly when he fights Izagakhmaev at the event.
