Islam Makhachev is all over the headlines following his dominant win over Bobby Green at UFC Vegas 49. The Russian stopped Green in the first round itself and improved his winning streak to 10 fights.
With another win under Islam’s resume, the next obvious question is: What is next for Islam Makhachev?

Many people are suggesting that Islam should get a title shot against the winner of Charles Oliveira vs. Justin Gaethje. UFC Lightweight Dan Hooker has also pitched in on the idea and noted that a matchup between Islam and Gaethje would not be a good one for the Dagestani.
"Gaethje is managed by Ali... I can't see Ali pushing that fight [Makhachev vs Gaethje]. Gaethje's a pretty big money-spinner for him as well. Not saying he would lose or anything like that. I'm just saying like stylistically, it's not a great fight. Like a guy that likes to go out there and put on an absolute show is not the best, that we've seen, the stylistic matchup for Islam,” Hooker said during his recent interview with The AllStar [h/t Sportskeeda].
Islam currently holds a professional MMA record of 22-1 to his name and has not lost a fight since 2015. The only loss of his career and the UFC came back in 2015 when he was stopped by Adriano Martins who has been on a slow run ever since.
Dan Hooker has also fought Makhachev. He locked horns with Islam Makhachev back in October 2021 at UFC 267 and had suffered a submission loss in the first round. Gaethje, on the other hand, is going to fight Oliveira for the title on the back of his decision win over Michael Chandler at UFC 268.
