Islam Makhachev is on his way towards earning a UFC Lightweight title shot. The Russian star is set to fight Bobby Green next and with an impressive win, Makhachev could be on his way to challenge Charles Oliveira who is reigning on top of the division.
Ahead of his fight with Green, Makhachev addressed the possibility of a fight with Oliveira and said that it will be an easy fight for him since the Brazilian does not have good wrestling skills.
“It’s going to be a good fight because we almost have the same style. He has good grappling skills, he has good striking, and it’s going to be a good fight. I don’t think it’s going to be hard for me. I can take him down easy because I know he doesn’t have good wrestling skills. But his grappling skills are high level and we will see who is better there,” Makhachev said during the media day of UFC Vegas 49.
He further went on to give his take on the showdown between Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje which is set to happen on May 7 at UFC 274.
“I think Oliveira is going to beat Justin Gaethje, and (it will be) 11 winning streak vs. 10-win streak. This is going to be a big fight for all MMA fans. I think he’s It’s going to finish him. I think he’s It’s going to strike with him (in the) first round, and after, he’s It’s going to take him down. I think he’s It’s going to choke him,” Makhachev added.
Makhachev is currently on a nine-fight winning streak in the UFC right now and holds a professional MMA record of 21-1 to his name with his lone loss coming against Adriano Martins.
