ONE Championship has announced an interim Heavyweight title fight between Anatoly Malykhin and Kirill Grishenko for ONE: Only the Brave.
The announcement was made last day and as per ONE Championship, ONE Championship Heavyweight champion Arjan Bhullar was offered the chance to defend the title but decided to pass the opportunity.
“Arjan and his management team have declined multiple offers to defend the ONE Heavyweight World Championship under his current contract. While this plays out, the show must go on in our heavyweight division, so we will be crowning an interim World Champion between top contenders Anatoly Malykhin and Kirill Grishenko,” Chatri Sityodtong, CEO and Chairman of ONE Championship noted.
Both Malykhin and Grishenko go into the fight with undefeated records to their name. Malykhin holds a professional record of 9-0 to his name when Grishenko is 5-0. Both fighters have two wins in ONE Championship as well.
Malykhin started off his run in ONE Championship with a first-round finish over Alexandre Machado back in February 2021 and secured a huge win against Amir Aliakbari back in September 2021 through another first-round finish as well. Malykhin was guaranteed a title shot after this KO win over Aliakbari.
Grishenko, on the other hand, started his run in UFC with a win over Oumar Kane in April 2021. He then followed this up with a win over Dustin Joynson at ONE: NEXT GEN in October which apparently landed him the interim title shot.
As for Arjan, he won the title at ONE: Dangal back in April 2021 by stopping Brandon Vera but is yet to defend the title. He is also 2-0 in ONE Championship and 11-1 in his career so far.
