UFC is set to roll out the first event of 2024 with UFC Vegas 84.

In the first headline event of the year, light heavyweight contenders Magomed Ankalaev and Johnny Walker are set for a rematch, marking their second clash in less than three months. The initial encounter at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi ended prematurely, raising the stakes for their upcoming bout.

Magomed Ankalaev, a universally recognized talent in the 205-pound weight class, finds himself in a unique position. Undefeated in his last 11 UFC appearances, the 31-year-old Russian has yet to secure a victory since defeating Anthony Smith at UFC 277 in the summer of 2022. Prior to the no-contest result against Walker last October, Ankalaev fought Jan Blachowicz to a split draw in a battle for the vacant light heavyweight title at UFC 282.

On the other side, Johnny Walker entered the initial contest with Ankalaev on a three-fight winning streak, demonstrating improved poise and patience. The 31-year-old Brazilian, after a rollercoaster start to his UFC tenure, seems to have found stability and hit his stride.
