Indian MMA fighter Punyajit Likharu to train at the UFC Performance Institute

Indian MMA Fighter Punyajit Likhari is set to train at the UFC Performance Institute in Shanghai. He will be training at the facility as part of the fifth UFC Academy Combine, the invite-only talent evaluation platform alongside names like Roshan Mainam, Sumit Kumar and Clinton DCruz from India. Punyajit is currently undefeated in his professional MMA career with a record of 4-0 to his name. Fighting out of Assam and Crosstrain Fight Club under Coach Siddharth Singh, Punyajit made his professional MMA debut in 20-19 after a successful Amateur MMA run.

During his Amateur career, Punyajit was the CPB-DUFC Bantamweight Champion as well.

In his professional MMA debut, he secured a decision win over Mayank Kohli at Matrix Fight Night 3 and then followed this up with two more wins in MFN over Anthony Syiem and Dorde Stojanovic. Punyajit was scheduled to fight Chaitanya Gavali after this but the fight did not go through.

He made his return in 2023 at the IFL event against Gariel Masancay and secured a decision win to improve his record to 4-0 and maintain his undefeated record in Professional MMA.

Punyajit comes out of Crosstrain Fight Club which also is the home to Indian MMA star Anshul Jubli who has already made his mark in the UFC.

Meanwhile, Siddharth Singh noted that Punyajit and Roshan Mainam were two of the names that he had recommended for the UFC Performance Institute opportunity.

Now, Punyajit will be training at the UFC Performance Institute in Shanghai along with Roshan Mainam.

The world-renowned organization has announced its fifth UFC Academy Combine, an exclusive platform where top MMA prospects to showcase their technical prowess and physical abilities for a chance at a full scholarship to the UFC Academy.

Scheduled to take place on March 21-22 at the prestigious UFC Performance Institute (UFC PI) in Shanghai, China, the fifth UFC Academy Combine will see the Indian fighters and other invitees undergo rigorous testing across 12 categories, covering aspects such as wrestling, grappling, striking, and various physical attributes. A meticulous scoring system will be employed to evaluate each fighter, culminating in an overall UFC Academy Combine ranking.

The top performers will be considered for a full scholarship to the UFC Academy.
