Indian MMA Fighter and former Road to UFC contestant Sumit Kumar is set to train at the UFC Performance Institute in Shanghai. Earlier, we reported that Indian MMA Fighter Roshan Mainam would be training at the facility as well.
Hailing from the humble village of Ajroi in Sasni, Uttar Pradesh, Sumit Kumar's journey into the world of combat sports began at the tender age of 12 when he immersed himself in the art of wrestling.
Having previously trained at prestigious institutions such as the Olympic Training Centre in Colorado Springs under the tutelage of former Olympic gold medalist Kevin Jackson, Sumit Kumar honed his skills further at the renowned Team Alpha Male gym in Sacramento, California, guided by none other than UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber.
After building an undefeated record, Sumit Kumar was given a chance at the Road to UFC Season 2 where he fought in the Flyweight division. In a highly anticipated bout at the UFC Performance Institute in Shanghai, Sumit faced South Korean Seung Guk Choi in the quarterfinals of the Road to UFC Season 2 flyweight division. Sumit suffered a major loss in this fight.

Sumit has not fought after this loss and now, he will be joining a long list of Asian fighters including India’s Roshan Mainam at the UFC Performance Institute.
The world-renowned organization has announced its fifth UFC Academy Combine, an exclusive platform where top MMA prospects to showcase their technical prowess and physical abilities for a chance at a full scholarship to the UFC Academy.
Scheduled to take place on March 21-22 at the prestigious UFC Performance Institute (UFC PI) in Shanghai, China, the fifth UFC Academy Combine will see the Indian fighters and other invitees undergo rigorous testing across 12 categories, covering aspects such as wrestling, grappling, striking, and various physical attributes. A meticulous scoring system will be employed to evaluate each fighter, culminating in an overall UFC Academy Combine ranking.
The top performers will be considered for a full scholarship to the UFC Academy.
