What happens when you try to rob a UFC fighter ft. Polyana Viana

It is not every day that someone tries to rob a UFC Fighter. However, this is exactly what happened when a man tried to rob UFC star Polyana Viana in Brazil.

The incident happened at Rio de Jeneiro in Brazil back in 2019. Viana was waiting for an Uber in front of her apartment which is located in Jacarepagua in Rio de Jeneiro. The man approached her and demanded Viana to hand over her cell phone. He then proceeded to put his hand over indicating that it was a gun.

“When he saw I saw him, he sat next to me. He asked me the time, I said it, and I saw he wasn’t going to leave. So I already moved to put my cell phone in my waist. And then he said, ‘Give me the phone. Don’t try to react, because I’m armed.’ Then he put his hand over (a gun), but I realized it was too soft,” Viana recalls.

The UFC star reacted quickly and took the man down with some kicks and punches.

“He was really close to me. So I thought, ‘If it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it.’ So I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick. He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke. Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, ‘Now we’ll wait for the police,” she recalls.

After submitting the robber, Viana asked for help form the passers-by and called the police. Till the police arrived, the Brazilian kept the man immobilized with a kimura-like position. The man apparently did not have a gun on him and it was simply a cut out that he had made with cardboard paper.

However, the person turned out to be a habitual offender and he had been arrested before as well. Viana recalls that the man did not react much after she submitted him with the initial attack.

“I was fine. I was fine because he didn’t even react after. Since he took the punches very quickly, I think he was scared. So he didn’t react anymore. He told me to let him go, like ‘I just asked for the time.’ I said, ‘Asked for the time my ass,’ because he saw I was very angry. I said I wouldn’t let go and that I was going to call the police,” she recalls.

The Brazilian fighter added that this was not the first time that she was attacked in Rio. However, the quick reaction and her skillset proved to be a game changer.
