I would put up a better fight: Paddy Pimblett on fighting Islam Makhachev

Paddy Pimblett has been the talk of the town after his win against Jared Gordon at UFC 282.

While Pimblett was asked many questions ahead of the co-main event of UFC 282, it was fascinating to hear his thoughts on Charles Oliveira's recent submission loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. Pimblett competes in the same lightweight division as Oliveira and was a vocal supporter of the Brazilian ahead of the titanic 155-pound clash.

Unfortunately for Oliveira, Makhachev proved to be too much for him at UFC 280. It was Oliveira's first loss since 2017, and it left his fans wondering what went wrong. This includes Pimblett, who feels he could have outfought "Do Bronx."

“I got so much stick for picking Charles against Islam, which is crazy because a lot of people picked Charles but still on social media posts and stuff oh you picked Charles. Yeah, cause Charles had fought the better people and I thought Charles was going to win,” said Pimblett.

He added that he would have put up a better fight against Islam Makhachev if he would have fought the Russian star.

“Can’t I have a prediction anymore? People saying you haven’t given props to Islam, I have. He looked unbelievable that night, he absolutely dominated Charles. I would’ve put up a better fight that night than Charles did, to be honest,” Pimblett said.

In another interview, Pimblett had praised Islam Makhachev for the skillset that he brings to the table.

"Charles (Oliveira) had been underestimated in every fight, you know what I mean? And he beat the better people. Islam hadn't proved himself yet, just like people say about me. Islam hadn't proved himself yet, but Islam looked absolutely phenomenal that night and I can't take nothing away from him. I'm not his biggest fan but that was brilliant what he'd done to Charles,” Paddy concluded.
