2022 IMMAF MMA World Championship: Here is the Indian Team for the event

The Indian MMA Team is set to travel for the 2022 IMMAF World Championship.  

The 2022 IMMAF MMA World Championship is all set to happen in Serbia from 11 February 2023 to 18 February 2023.  The two amateur competitions will be held in the Stark Arena in Novi Beograd (Belgrade), Serbia, from February 11 to 17. They are being hosted by the Serbian MMA Federation. For fans throughout the world, all fights will be streamed on the IMMAF's OTT network, immaf.tv.

The Championships will feature ten weight divisions for men, ranging from Strawweight to Super Heavyweight, and six weight divisions for female competitors, from Atomweight to Lightweight. The contest will be run in accordance with the most recent IMMAF Amateur rules.

The 2022 IMMAF World Championships in Serbia will be the largest competition in the history of the organisation with over 520 competitors from 62 nations.

6 Indian MMA Fighters to compete at the event

A total of 6 Indian MMA fighters have been confirmed for the event in Serbia. Former Junior World MMA champion Mahboob Khan will be returning at the World Championship. This will be the last amateur MMA contest for Mahboob who is set to turn professional after the championship.

Former IMMAF MMA World Championship Bronze Medallist for India, Vridhi Kumari will be looking to continue her good run at the IMMAF stage as she competes in the atomweight category. Vridhi has been training in Thailand for the competition and will also have fellow Indian Khushboo Nishad in the same weight class.

Khushboo, who trains out of Hyderabad under Team India coach Shaik Khalid, alongside Mahboob Khan, is a bronze medallist at the IMMAF Asian MMA Championship.

Ganesh Raj, Shabrish Ayyanar and Zarmawia will complete the Indian MMA team. Ganesh Raj is coming off his performances at BRAVE Combat Federation and Sangai MMA. Shabarish, on the other hand, had won the Bronze Medal at the Asian MMA Championship and had also performed well in his last World Championship outing.

Zarmawia, on the other hand, has been a dominant name in the Indian domestic MMA circuit. Hailing from Mizoram, Zarmawia was undefeated for years and has won multiple National Championship Gold medals. You can see the team for the event below.

  • Ganesh Raj (Bantamweight)
  • Vridhi Kumari (Atomweight)

The Indian representation will also see a list of officials and coaches. MMA India president Sharif Bapu will be leading the team of officials which will also consist of Prasad Gaitonde, Kevin Alfred David, Vikash Sharma, Radhika Jhaveri, and Ajay Marwah.

Shaikh Khalid and Vikram Nagaraj will serve as the coaches for the event.
