Vridhi Kumari has made history for India as she has won Bronze Medal at the IMMAF World Championship 2021. Vridhi secured a bronze medal in the Female Atomweight category at the IMMAF World Championship 2021 which is being held in Abu Dhabi.
Vridhi won the medal thanks to her win in the quarter-final against Nurzhamal Sadykova of Kazakhstan. The Indian managed to outclass her opponent who was a former World Championship Bronze Medalist and took home a split decision win to book her spot in the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, Vridhi was pitted up against IMMAF Junior World Championship silver medalist and European Silver medalist Nadine Abbot Bissett of Ireland. It was a resilient performance from Vridhi who suffered a TKO loss in the last ten seconds of the fight which lasted three rounds.
It was the first IMMAF World Championship appearance for Vridhi in Abu Dhabi and the future clearly looks bright for the youngster who trains out of Combat Kinetics in India.
The 2021 IMMAF World Championship campaign was a memorable one for India as the team picked up multiple wins. Shabarish picked up the first victory for India and this was followed by a first-round KO victory from Ramston Rodrigues. Both Shabarish and Ramston had solid outings in their respective quarter-final matches despite suffering losses.
As for Medals, earlier, Mahboob Khan had won the Gold Medal for India at the Junior IMMAF World Championship as well which made him the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal at the IMMAF World Championships.
