Indian Boxer Faizan Anwar wins WBC Middle East title

Indian boxer Faizan Anwar has won the WBC Middle East Welterweight Title. Faizan captured the title with a decision victory over Jean Junior Messi Elime in Dubai.

Faizan came into the fight on the back of a 13-0 professional boxing record. He started his career back in 2019 and has been quite active over the past three years with most of his fights coming in Dubai. He had secured wins over names like Justice Addy, Ricky Sismundo, Viktor Plotnikov, Yameen Khan and Sachin Nautiyal among others.

Jean Junior Messi Elime, on the other hand, also came into the fight with an undefeated professional MMA record of 6-0 to his name. He debuted back in 2021 and had three finishes on his resume along with three decision wins.

The fight between the two undefeated fighters went the complete distance of eight rounds. In the end, it was Faizan Anwar that came out on top on the Judges’ scorecard. With the title win, Faizan has once again cemented his spot-on top of the rankings in India and improved his standing in the world ranking.

He is currently ranked first in the Welterweight division in India as per BoxRec and is ahead of names like Sabari J and Neeraj Goyat. Faizan is also ranked 133rd in the world as per BoxRec.

Olympic Dreams in mind

Although Faizan has been quite successful in his professional boxing journey, the Indian had noted that he would be interested to represent the country in Olympics. He had recently revealed in an interview that he is hoping to bring a medal for the country in the 2024 Olympics.
