Aung La N Sang, a former two-division world champion, claims that he will only engage in combat with Fan Rong if it results in a finish.

After almost ten years, Aung La is fighting again in the US, and it's clear that he wants to make a big impression on the big stage. But it's simpler said than done.

If the battle falls to the ground, Aung La might find himself in a difficult situation given that Fan Rong has demonstrated both a talent for grappling and for hitting. The Burmese Python, who has a tiny advantage in the ground game, is sure that he will win the fight no matter where it goes.

“We’ll see you know, but from my scouting reports he’s actually a grappler too. Just, he’s more of a grappler too so I don’t know. If the opportunity presents itself [then] yes, but you know what my game is. Everybody knows what my game is. I’m looking for a finish and if it means grappling, I will grapple. If it means striking I will strike but I’m gonna look for a finish,” Aung La noted in his interview with SCMP MMA (h/t Sportskeeda).

In his recent battles with ONE Championship and in other minor promotions, Fan Rong has successfully used a more wrestling-heavy approach. He does, however, have some flaws in his strategy that Aung La can take advantage of. The Chinese grappler has a fantastic takedown offence in ONE, but he struggles to get a submission.

Aung La, on the other hand, is coming off two back-to-back knockout wins and will be looking to add another one to his resume when he fights Fan Rong.
