UFC 261 went down today at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville and had a string of exciting fights on offer.

Usman knocks out Masvidal

In the main event, Kamaru Usman shocked the world by knocking out Jorge Masvidal in the second round to retain the UFC Welterweight title.

Usman managed to take proceedings to the ground early in the first round itself only to see Masvidal standing up a couple of minutes later. The challenger closed out the first round on a strong note with some strikes and had the crowd firmly behind him. Usman, however, shocked everyone in attendance when he knocked out Masvidal with a huge punch to retain the title and extend his winning streak further.

Rose Namajunas stops Zhang Weili

Rose Namajunas produced a head kick to stop champion Zhang Weili in the first-round of the co-main event and became the new UFC Strawweight champion. Although the referee gave Zhang some time to recover after the head kick, Namajunas managed to close the fight with some vicious ground and pound and ensure the title win.

Namajunas is now on a two-fight winning streak as well as her last win coming against Jessica Andrade back in July, 2020. Zhang, meanwhile, suffered her first defeat after 2013 and dropped to 21-2 in her professional MMA record.

Valentina Shevchenko dominates yet again

Valentina Shevchenko produced yet another dominant performance as she outclassed Jessica Andrade and secured a second-round stoppage win. With the win, Valentina improved her winning streak to seven fights with her last defeat coming against Amanda Nunes back in 2017.

Smith gets TKO win, Weidman vs. Hall has an unfortunate end

In the main card opener, Anthony Smith stopped Jim Crute in the first-round to secure an important win. The fight between Urial Hall and Chris Weidman had an unfortunate end after Weidman broke his leg just seconds into the first-round. Weidman’s leg broke while trying a leg kick similar to the one that resulted in Anderson Silva’s leg breaking a few years back when he fought Weidman.
