Former World Medallist Sarjubala Devi makes successful pro boxing debut in Dubai

Indian boxer Sarjubala Devi, who made her mark in the amateur boxing circuit, has successfully turned professional with a win in Dubai. The Manipur native made her professional boxing debut against a more experienced Lulu Kayage of Tanzania.

Kayage came into the fight with a professional boxing record of 7-6-3 and was ranked second in Tanzania for her weight class.

Despite the experience of Kayage, The Indian was in the driving seat from the start itself and cautiously steered through the rounds without taking much damage and secured a dominant decision win.

Sarjubala comes into the professional circuit following a successful outing in the amateur scene which saw her win the Youth World Championship Gold Medal, AIBA World Championship Silver, Presidents Cup Gold Medal, and multiple National titles.

Earlier, Indian boxers like Vijender Singh and Vikas Krishan had successfully transitioned from amateur boxing to professional boxing.

Apart from Sarjubala, five Indian boxers were also on the fight card which was promoted by Grassroot Boxing Promotions in Dubai. The fight card saw Indian boxers going up against Pakistani boxers and witnessed the Indians securing a clean sweep.

Rebaldo Saikhom, Nutlai Lalbiakkima, Laldingliana, Faizan Anwar, and Lalrinsanga Tlau secured wins for India with the wins of Nutlai and Faizan coming via knockouts. You can see the full results for Indian boxers from the event below if you missed it.
