Indian boxers Nutlai Lalbiakkima and Sandeep Singh are all set to lock horns for the IBA Intercontinental title on April 17, 2021, in Mumbai. The announcement was made by Marine Pro Boxing Promotions today and comes on the back of their earlier reveals about the IBA title fight being hosted in India.

UPDATE ON NEW DATES: Nutlai Lalbiakkima of Mizoram to fight Sandeep Singh of Punjab for IBA Title

Nutlai, who hails from Mizoram, made headlines back in 2018 in the amateur circuit by defeating Olympic Gold Medalist and World Number 1 Hasanboy Dusmatov. He made his professional boxing debut recently at the Warrior Boxing Series hosted by Marine Pro Boxing Promotions and secured a first-round TKO victory as well.

Sandeep Singh, on the other hand, will have an opportunity to pull off a huge upset and become an IBA Champion from India if he stops Nutlai at the event.

Earlier, Marine Pro Boxing Promotions founder and promoter Devraj Das had the following to say about the title fight.

“Nutlai Lalbiakkima created history in Amateur boxing by beating world no.1 boxer back in 2018, this time we will create history in professional boxing and deliver India its 1st World Champion before we wrap 2021,” he said.

IBA Vice-President Stephane Cabrera also had high praise for the Indian boxing circuit.

“IBA is going huge time into the Indian territory & will be the 1st in history to host an IBA Title Fight in the business capital of India - Mumbai. IBA has notable champions who have strapped the belts across their waist including Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, Sergey Kovalev, Roy Jones Jr & many legends,” he noted in a statement provided by Marine Pro Boxing Promotions.

Apart from Nutlai, Indian boxer Vimal Punera is all set to compete for the IBA Title as well, the details of which are yet to be shared by the team.

The 26-year-old Vimal currently has a professional record of 4-1 to his name and is currently riding on a four-fight winning streak. He had made his professional debut back in 2018 against Obedi Maguchi in New Zealand and followed it up with four wins under the Marine Pro Boxing Promotions banner.

Vimal’s last fight came at the Warrior Boxing Series from Marine Pro Boxing Promotions where he secured a first-round TKO victory over Vimal Kumar. Earlier, in an interview, Vimal had revealed that getting the World title is his ultimate goal, and the IBA Asia title fight will be the first major step for the same.
