Indian boxer Nutlai Lalbiakkima is all set to fight for the IBA International Title in April. The venue and date for the fight are yet to be announced but the event will be hosted in Mumbai and will be promoted by Marine Pro Boxing Promotions.
UPDATE ON NEW DATES: Nutlai Lalbiakkima of Mizoram to fight Sandeep Singh of Punjab for IBA Title
Nutlai, who hails from Mizoram, made headlines back in 2018 in the amateur circuit by defeating Olympic Gold Medalist and World Number 1 Hasanboy Dusmatov. He made his professional boxing debut recently at the Warrior Boxing Series hosted by Marine Pro Boxing Promotions and secured a first-round TKO victory as well.
“IBA is going huge time into the Indian territory & will be the 1st in history to host an IBA Title Fight in the business capital of India - Mumbai. IBA has notable champions who have strapped the belts across their waist including Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, Sergey Kovalev, Roy Jones Jr & many legends,” Vice-President of International Boxing Association (IBA) Stephane Cabrera noted in a statement provided by Marine Pro Boxing Promotions.
The professional debut of Nutlai was a huge boost for the boxing circuit in Mizoram and now, the title fight is bound to improve the sport's reach further.
“Nutlai Lalbiakkima created history in Amateur boxing by beating world no.1 boxer back in 2018, this time we will create history in professional boxing and deliver India its 1st World Champion before we wrap 2021,” Marine Pro Boxing Promotions founder and promoter Devraj Das noted.
