Marine Pro Boxing Promotions has announced that Indian Boxer Vimal Punera is scheduled to fight for the IBA Asia Title in April 2021. The opponent, venue, and the date for the fight are yet to be announced but it was confirmed that the event will be held in India with Indian boxer Nutlai Lalbiakkima headlining the card for the IBA International Title.
The 26-year-old Vimal currently has a professional record of 4-1 to his name and is currently riding on a four-fight winning streak. He had made his professional debut back in 2018 against Obedi Maguchi in New Zealand and followed it up with four wins under the Marine Pro Boxing Promotions banner.
Vimal’s last fight came at the Warrior Boxing Series from Marine Pro Boxing Promotions where he secured a first-round TKO victory over Vimal Kumar. Earlier, in an interview, Vimal had revealed that getting the World title is his ultimate goal, and the IBA Asia title fight will be the first major step for the same.
“We have only one thought in our mind which is to become world number one. In today’s time, we need to change our mindsets & think, work, train like Champions. That is the only way to reaching my destination,” he had noted in an interview.
Elsewhere, Vice-President of International Boxing Association (IBA) Stephane Cabrera said that IBA has a lot of interest in the Indian Territory.
“IBA is going huge time into the Indian territory & will be the 1st in history to host an IBA Title Fight in the business capital of India - Mumbai. IBA has notable champions who have strapped the belts across their waist including Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, Sergey Kovalev, Roy Jones Jr & many legends,” he said.
Marine Pro Boxing Promotions Founder and Promoter Devraj Das also had a positive outlook on the whole development and praised Vimal Punera.
“Vimal Punera is already leading his weight division & he has immense potential to be the next champion by 2022. This time we make sure our show is produced on a grand scale while we Livestream to 25 countries who will witness a new era in Indian pro boxing,” he noted.
