Chael Sonnen thinks that Khamzat Chimaev could be a double champion in the UFC.

In an interview with ‘The Schmo’, Sonnen noted that Khamzat Chimaev has more chances of becoming a UFC double champion than reigning UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

Though Sonnen was not ready to write off Adesanya, he noted that if he had one option, he would pick Chimaev.

“I’m not ready to write off Adesanya. I know that he was the closest just because he got the opportunity. But I do think that Chimaev’s got some really hard work in front of him. But he is. He is probably the guy if you are only giving me one option. He’s probably the guy, most likely,” Sonnen noted.

Chimaev has been unstoppable in his professional MMA career and holds a record of 10-0 to his name. He is scheduled to fight former UFC Welterweight title contender Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 next and the fight is expected to be a huge test for the Swede.

He recently sparked debates with a tweet of his as well in which he said that he can finish Israel Adesanya easily. Adesanya brushed off the comments and said that Chimaev is only hype.

Interestingly, Adesanya tried to capture the Light Heavyweight title recently by fighting Jan Blachowicz for the title. Adesanya, however, failed to do so and suffered the first defeat of his professional MMA career as well.
