UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov during his Instagram Live Chat last day revealed that his father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov remains in “very serious condition” due to the COVID-19 complications. This is as per RT Sport.
The Russian also noted that the virus has impacted his family and friends as well with more than 20 of his relatives falling sick. Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov recently underwent surgery and was in a medically-induced coma during the process.
Khabib also added that the pandemic should not be underestimated and said that everyone should overcome this together.
“Many people I know have died, the parents of people close to me. This virus has affected everyone. This virus doesn’t ask what your surname or name is, this virus doesn’t ask where you work if you are rich or poor. Everyone has gotten ill. We can only overcome this together,” he noted.
The MMA community had come out in support of Khabib during his battle with the situation with a long list of fighters including Conor McGregor reaching out.
Russia has been hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic with over 291,000 cases in the nation and over 2700 deaths as of writing. Around 70,200 people have recovered as well.
Khabib, who last fought back in September 2019 against Dustin Poirier, was scheduled to fight Tony Ferguson at UFC 249. However, the fight had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and UFC went forward to booking Tony Ferguson vs. Justin Gaethje.
