The campaign of Team India at the 2019 IMMAF-WMMAA World Championship came to an end on Day 3. Mahboob Khan Mohammed who picked up a win last day in the Men’s Strawweight category, had an unfortunate end to his run as he was declared NFTC after failed weigh-ins.

Mahboob was scheduled to fight Adam Khamkhoev on Day 3 with a spot in the semi-final at stakes. Surbala Laishram, who was the second Indian in action on Day 3, delivered a solid performance against Daniela Hernandez of Mexico. Surbala suffered an MCL tear within the first round itself and decided to continue with the fight despite the injury upon suggestions from her coach.

The fight between Surbala and Daniela went the distance and the Mexican managed to edge out Surabala in the judges’ score card with a score of 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27.

With both Mahboob Khan and Surbala out from their bracket, Day 3 officially marked an end to Team India’s run at the 2019 IMMAF-WMMAA World Championships.

Below are the results for Day 3:

  • Adam Khamkhoev progressed to the next stage as Mahboob Khan was declared NFTC
  • Daniela Hernandez def. Surbala Laishram via unanimous decision.
