The second day of the 2019 IMMAF-WMMAA World Championships went down in Bahrain today and it had six Indian fighters in action.
The biggest story of the day came from Mahboob Khan Mohammed who went on to secure a unanimous decision victory against Troy Fumo of Australia. Mahboob Khan, who had won Gold Medal in the Junior World Championship last year, took home the decision with a score of 30-27,30-27 and 28-29. He has now progressed to the next stage of the Strawweight bracket and will now face Adam Khamkhoev of Russia on Day 3 with a spot in the Semi-Finals up for grabs.
Naorem Dinesh was in action against Israel Galvan in the Flyweight category today and suffered a submission defeat in the first round via a guillotine choke. Jishal Parmar, who was the third senior Indian fighter in action on day 2, suffered a first round TKO defeat against Lexi Rook.
As for the Junior Category, Khushi Gohel was stopped in the first round by Talshyn Zhumatayeva of Kazakhstan via a TKO. Akash Paulkar had a similar fate when he was stopped by Fariz Abdalov of Kazakhstan in the first round.
Arjun Pundir, meanwhile, went the distance against Yerulan Kabdulov of Kazakhstan but lost on the judges scorecard with a score of 30-27, 30-27 and 30-26.
Day 3 will see Surbala Laishram and Mahboob Khan in action as they will be looking to progress into next round.
