Arjan Bhullar becomes first Indian-Origin fighter to win ONE Championship title

Arjan Bhullar has become the first Indian-Origin MMA fighter to win the ONE Championship title. Arjan defeated Brandon Vera at ONE: Dangal today to win the ONE Heavyweight title and also became the second ONE Heavyweight Champion in the history of the promotion.

The first round saw plenty of action on stand-up before it ended in a stalemate with Vera getting hold of Arjan’s hand in a compromising position on the ground. Arjan managed to weather the possibility of a Kimura from the position and moved into the second round where he managed to end the fight via a TKO.

Ahead of the fight, Arjan was riding high on a three-fight winning streak having defeated Mauro Cerilli, Juan Adams, and Marcelo Golm. The win against Mauro Cerilli was also his ONE Championship debut with his other two wins coming in the UFC.

Brandon Vera, on the other hand, came into the fight on the back of a defeat against Aung La N Sang at Light Heavyweight and was on a four-fight winning streak before the showdown with the Burmese Python. Interestingly, Vera had also trained at Sanford MMA alongside Aung La N Sang ahead of the fight with Arjan Bhullar.

ONE: Dangal was broadcasted across the globe on May 15, 2021, and featured names like Ritu Phogat, Bi Nguyen, Roshan Mainam, and Gurdarshan Mangat apart from the showdown between Arjan and Brandon.

The fight between Gurdarshan Mangat and Roshan Mainam went the complete distance and saw Gurdarshan picking up a comfortable decision victory. With the win, Gurdarshan returned to winning ways and added one more win to his resume. Meanwhile, Bi Nguyen and Ritu Phogat also went the complete distance with Nguyen getting a split decision win and in turn, ending the undefeated streak of Ritu.
