Bi Nguyen became the first MMA fighter to defeat Ritu Phogat as she secured a split decision win over the Indian MMA star at ONE: Dangal. With the win, Nguyen is now back on winning aways having suffered three back-to-back defeats in her last three MMA fights.

Ritu managed to get hold of Nguyen early in the first round itself and took Nguyen to the ground. The Indian Tigress then went on to pressure Nguyen throughout the round. It was a similar story in the second round as Ritu landed a takedown a minute into the round. The opening minutes of the third round saw some stand-up exchanges from both fighters before Ritu pushed Nguyen towards the cage and closed the distance. Nguyen managed to land some heavy shots in the clinch and had a strong showing in the time frame that followed with her striking game. In the end, the fight was ruled in favor of Bi Nguyen via a split decision much to the surprise of Ritu Phogat.

Coming into the fight, the Indian MMA star was on a four-fight winning streak having won all the fights in her short professional MMA career. After making her MMA debut against Nam Hee Kim back in ONE: Age of Dragons, Ritu went on to defeat Chiao Chen Wu, Nou Srey Pov, and Jomary Torres ahead of her fight with Bi Nguyen at ONE: Dangal.

With the loss, she will now not be able to compete against Meng Bo at ONE: Empower in the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix. The event is scheduled to take place on May 28, 2021.

Bi Nguyen, on the other hand, had suffered three back-to-back defeats in MMA prior to her fight with Ritu Phogat. Anoniya Bozhena, Stamp Fairtex, and Jihin Radzuan were the fighters that got the wins over Nguyen. However, it should also be noted that Nguyen had defeated Puja Tomar of India in a Muay-Thai contest amidst this streak.

ONE: Dangal was broadcasted across the globe on May 15, 2021, and featured names like Roshan Mainam, Gurdarshan Mangat, Arjan Singh Bhullar, and Brandon Vera apart from the showdown between Ritu Phogat and Bi Nguyen.

The fight between Gurdarshan Mangat and Roshan Mainam went the complete distance and saw Gurdarshan picking up a comfortable decision victory. With the win, Gurdarshan returned to winning ways and added one more win to his resume.
