Five Indian boxers have confirmed their spot for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after advancing into the semi-finals of the on-going Asian Qualifiers in Amman, Jordan.
Pooja Rani was the first to get the spot after she secured a win in her Quarter-Final bout in the 75 KG category. Rani got the win over Thailand’s Pornnipa Chutee to get the job done.
Vikas Krishan followed by advancing into the semi-finals of the 69 KG category and booked his place for the event as well. He managed to outclass Sewonrets Okazawa of Japan who was third-seeded for the event.
Satish Kumar, Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) and Ashish Kumar (75kg) also secured spots for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by picking up wins in their respective categories. Meanwhile, Sachin Kumar suffered a setback as he was not able to progress after losing to China's national champion Daxaing Chen in his quarterfinal bout.
The likes of Mary Kom and Amit Panghal are still in contention for the Olympic berth as a win in their next fight could get the job done.
