Mary Kom confirmed her spot for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after defeating Irish Magno of Philippines in the quarter-finals of the Asian Qualifiers in Jordan. Mary managed to get a 5-0 unanimous decision win in the fight and progressed into the semi-finals of the qualifiers as well.
The second-seeded Mary will now fight China's Yuan Chang in the semifinals of the qualifiers. Chang is a former Youth Olympics medallist making it a tough outing for the 37-year-old Indian star.
Earlier today, Top seed Amit Panghal secured his Olympic spot by getting the better of Carlo Paalam of Philippines in the quarterfinals of the Asian Qualifiers in Jordan. Amit managed to get a 1-4 split decision win against his opponent and advanced into the semi-finals which earned him his maiden spot in the Olympic Games.
Elsewhere, Sakshi Chaudhary failed to make the cut after going down against Korea's Im Aeji in the quarterfinals. Sakshi suffered a 0-5 defeat in the fight but will have another shot at qualifying in May if she manages to get selected for the World Qualifiers.
Yesterday, India had secured five Olympic spots through Pooja Rani, Vikas Krishan, Satish Kumar, Lovlina Borgohain and Ashish Kumar.
