On Sunday, May 12, UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Nascimento aired live across Asia from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The event featured thrilling matchups, with hometown fighters Derrick Lewis and Joaquin Buckley delivering standout performances.
Ranked No. 12 in the heavyweight division, knockout specialist Derrick Lewis received overwhelming support from his hometown crowd as he faced rising contender Rodrigo Nascimento, ranked No. 15. Despite a series of clinches throughout the fight, Lewis's relentless efforts paid off in the third round. He dropped Nascimento and secured a referee stoppage, thereby extending his UFC record for the most knockouts to 15. Reflecting on his victory, Lewis said,
"I feel good. What is this... St. Louis? I appreciate you all. I couldn’t let a taxi driver from Brazil beat me. I’m going to sit down for a second. I’m getting too old for this. Did you see that? You don’t see too many almost-40-year-olds do that."
In the co-main event, St. Louis’ own Joaquin Buckley, ranked No. 11 in the welterweight division, made a rousing entrance to face Nursulton Ruziboev. Despite Ruziboev's towering 2-meter frame and his attempts with knee strikes, Buckley effectively countered with takedowns. In the third round, Buckley achieved a significant knockdown, gained mount position, and dominated with ground-and-pound techniques. After an exciting round, Buckley celebrated his win, saying,
"St. Louis, stand up everybody! We showed up and showed out! We brought the UFC back, and it wasn’t just me, it was you all too! This is our win! My grandma has ALS. ALS has stricken so many things from her, but she still keeps a smile on her face and pushes her baby. Grandma, this one’s for you!"
