UFC Fight Night: Vera vs. Cruz was the highest-grossing sporting event in Pechanga Arena's history and was broadcast live on Sunday, August 14 in Asia. It was the arena's 22nd consecutive sell-out. The event featured high-level action in matches between the most intriguing up-and-comers.

Top bantamweight contenders #5 Marlon Vera and #8-ranked Dominick Cruz demonstrated that fighting styles matter. Vera maintained his composure and responded with powerful punches while Cruz used his distinctive technique to land strikes in volume. Cruz may have been in the lead going into the fourth round when Vera timed his head kick to perfection and won by KO. Vera stated that he holds the bantamweight record for most victories.

"Coach told me, 'Throw a bomb after your punches, and you will find him'. Thank you Coach, I love you. I came to this sport to be a world champion. I have the heart, I have the work ethic, and now I have the people to get me there. I believe it's all about performance. Whoever has the best finish, the flashiest one, is who gets the title shot. I will keep working... and Ecuador, I'm going to be a champion,” Vera noted.

Featherweights Nate Landwehr and David Onama put on a spectacular show in the night's Fight of the Night, with the momentum swinging back and forth as they both relentlessly pursued knockouts and submissions. After the final chimes, Landwehr was declared the winner by a majority vote on the judges' scorecards.

"I showed up, plain and simple. Nate 'The Train' in the UFC, I'm the roughest, toughest, buck-est mother, and I can fight pretty good too, baby! I'm the baddest man in the division,” Landwehr noted.

Two of the youngest fighters on the UFC roster put on a show in their Octagon debuts, as 23-year-old Yazmin Jauregui scored a unanimous decision win over 20-year-old Iasmin Lucindo in a high-impact strawweight three-rounder.

Priscila "Zombie Girl" Cachoeira and Ariane Lipski were rebooked at bantamweight a week later than originally scheduled, and both came out eagerly trading punches. Cachoeira landed hard and dropped Lipski, winning the bout by TKO.
