UFC Macau Results: Song Yadong submits Deiveson Figueiredo in main event

Song Yadong delivered a statement victory in front of his home crowd, submitting former UFC champion Deiveson Figueiredo in the main event of UFC Fight Night on May 30 at Galaxy Arena in Macau.

The bantamweight contenders spent the opening round trading strikes while searching for openings. Song took control in the second round when Figueiredo attempted a takedown. The Chinese standout immediately locked in a guillotine choke and forced the tap at 4:42 of Round 2, securing one of the biggest wins of his career.

In the co-main event, Alonzo Menifield outlasted Zhang Mingyang in a thrilling light heavyweight slugfest that earned Fight of the Night honors.

The two heavy hitters exchanged powerful strikes throughout the contest before Menifield landed a decisive shot late in the opening round. He followed with a barrage of ground strikes to secure the TKO victory at 4:15.

Japanese bantamweight Kai Asakura enjoyed a successful return to the division, stopping Cameron Smotherman in the first round. Asakura rocked his opponent with a right hand before finishing the fight with a follow-up left hand at 1:50 of Round 1.

Fellow Japanese prospect Rei Tsuruya also impressed, submitting Luis Gurule in the opening round after securing a rear-naked choke midway through the contest.

Performance of the Night bonuses were awarded to Song Yadong and Kai Asakura. Additional finish bonuses went to Sergei Pavlovich, Luis Felipe Dias, Cody Haddon, Rei Tsuruya, Rodrigo Vera and Jaqueline Amorim.
