Indian MMA star and reigning Matrix Fight Night (MFN) strawweight champion Sonam Zomba added another title to her growing collection, defeating Sri Lanka's Chathuri Siriwardana to capture the inaugural Karma Fight League (KFL) World Strawweight Championship in a K-1 kickboxing bout at KFL 8 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Originally scheduled to face Pakistan's Bushra Akhtar, Zomba instead squared off against Siriwardana after a late change to the fight card. The Indian standout produced a composed performance to earn a unanimous decision and become the first-ever KFL World Strawweight champion under K-1 rules.
The victory further cements Zomba's status as one of India's premier female combat sports athletes. Already the reigning MFN strawweight champion in mixed martial arts, the Arunachal Pradesh native showcased her versatility by successfully transitioning from the MMA cage to the kickboxing ring to claim another international title.
The KFL title triumph continues an impressive run for Zomba, who has remained one of India's busiest active fighters. Prior to her kickboxing victory over Siriwardana, she successfully defended her MFN Strawweight Championship against Maristela Alves via second-round reverse armbar at Matrix Fight Night 18. Before that, she defeated Sushmita Thapa in a kickboxing contest at Bidang Fighting Championship 8, while earlier MFN victories over Anna Safeeva and Shylin Tan helped establish her as one of the country's top strawweights.
Elsewhere on the KFL 8 card, it was a difficult night for the remaining Indian fighters. Mezan was defeated by Sri Lanka's Kavindu Phoenix, Neeraj fell short against Meshak, and Jishnu suffered a loss to Ishuru.
With championships now in both mixed martial arts and K-1 kickboxing, Zomba continues to strengthen her reputation as one of India's most accomplished female combat sports athletes.
