The announcement of the main event for UFC 300 has taken the mixed martial arts world by surprise, as UFC CEO Dana White unveiled a headline bout between Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill, immediately following UFC 298. While expectations initially swirled around Pereira defending his light heavyweight title at UFC 301 in Brazil, the spotlight now shifts to the clash between Pereira and Hill, set for April 13 on the historic card.

White's decision to pit Pereira against Hill was motivated by timing and opportunity, as he revealed during the post-UFC 298 press conference. White commended UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards for his willingness to accept multiple opponents for UFC 300, despite ultimately not featuring on the card.

“In this business, it’s about taking opportunities," said White. "Headlining UFC 300 with all the buzz and all the energy around it."

White also praised Edwards for his unwavering determination, highlighting his readiness to face any opponent. "Leon Edwards doesn’t say no to anybody," White remarked, speaking highly of the welterweight champion's commitment to the sport.

However, logistical challenges loomed large in securing the desired main event for UFC 300, given the stacked schedule of three consecutive pay-per-view cards. White emphasized that the hurdles were primarily logistical, with the UFC striving to deliver the best fights possible amidst scheduling constraints.

“This was not about money," White clarified. "It was all about timing. We’ve got three killer cards in a row."

For Pereira, headlining UFC 300 represents another milestone in his meteoric rise from kickboxing to MMA success. Defending his second divisional title, Pereira's journey in the UFC has been marked by remarkable achievements.
