Tiffany Teo secured a huge win over Ritu Phogat at ONE 161 and successfully dropped down to Atomweight. The Singaporean submitted Ritu in the first round of their showdown and has her eyes set on the Atomweight division now.
Speaking after her win at the event, Tiffany revealed the reason why she dropped to Atomweight.
“I’ve mentioned this before, the main reason I went down to atomweight is I want to fight more often and atomweight is a very stacked division. But I’m still keeping my options open at strawweight if there are any good fights over there. I’m still the top contender at strawweight and I’m open to returning,” she said.
She further went on to break down her performance against Ritu Phogat. Tiffany noted that she had a superior skill set when compared to that of the Indian MMA star.
“There’s no doubt that [Ritu’s] a great wrestler, she’s been wrestling throughout her entire life, she’s been wrestling since her teenage years. But I’ve always emphasized that it’s a mixed martial arts bout, not a wrestling contest. Even though she’s a very good wrestler, I know that in the context of MMA, I’m better than her in everything. I knew that I had superior striking and grappling,” Tiffany added.

Prior to the fight, Tiffany had noted that she will be looking for a knockout win.
“Yeah, I was hoping to finish it in round one, I was hoping for either a knockout or a submission. Going into things, I knew how it was going to play out. If she wanted to keep striking, I think I could have earned a knockout. But it went to the ground and I got the choke,” the ONE championship star added.
