Tatiana Suarez and Jessica Andrade fought in the co-main event of UFC Nashville today.
Tatiana Suarez banked in on her grappling skills midway through the first round and secured the top position on the ground. She was able to get the neck of Andrade in the scramble and was pushing for a submission. The former UFC champion, was, however, able to survive the attempts from Suarez.
The second round started with Suarez once again taking matters to the ground. The American once again pushed for a submission and this time around, found success and made the former champion tap in the second round.
Former strawweight champ Jessica Andrade made her fourth appearance of 2023, stepping in to face off against rising contender Tatiana Suarez.
After securing a lopsided victory over Lauren Murphy at UFC 283 in January, Andrade entered the Saturday matchup on a two-fight skid. She had been submitted by Erin Blanchfield in February and knocked out by Yan Xiaonan in her return to strawweight at UFC 288. With more than four years having passed since her title triumph, the 31-year-old Brazilian found herself with a 1-3 record in the division over her last four contests and an overall record of 4-5 since capturing the strawweight title.
Suarez, who had spent more than three years on the sidelines, displayed no signs of slowing down. The undefeated standout returned to action in February and seamlessly resumed her winning ways, securing a second-round submission victory over Montana De La Rosa to maintain her unblemished 9-0 record.
Now back in her natural strawweight environment at the age of 32, the former TUF winner aimed to continue her trajectory towards contention by extending Andrade's losing streak and pushing her own run of success to double digits.
