Reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight MMA World Champion Stamp Fairtex has had to pull out of her highly anticipated main event fight against Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga at ONE 167 on Prime Video due to an injury. The Thai champion suffered the setback during the final stages of her training camp at the Fairtex Training Center in Pattaya, Thailand.
The 26-year-old champ explained, "My sparring partner tried to take me down, but because she's smaller, she couldn't lift me high enough, and my leg was still on the ground. When she twisted, my knee got injured."
Stamp's withdrawal means that her bout with Zamboanga, which would have been her first title defense, will not go ahead as planned. Instead, the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Title fight between Tawanchai PK Saenchai and “Smokin” Jo Nattawut will now headline the event, broadcasting live from the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, June 7.
Stamp, who claimed the vacant World Title last September, becoming the first-ever three-sport ONE World Champion, expressed her disappointment, saying, "I worked hard and was very focused on this fight. Accidents happen all the time."
Following a successful surgery to repair her torn meniscus, Stamp faces several months of rehabilitation. Her scheduled bout with ONE Women’s Strawweight MMA World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan at ONE 168: Denver is now uncertain, pending further updates on her recovery.
