Songchainoi Kiatsongrit has one eye on Friday night and another firmly fixed on the atomweight Muay Thai throne. The former ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Title challenger faces Banluelok Sitwatcharachai in the atomweight Muay Thai main event of The Inner Circle 27 on August 21, airing via live.onefc.com, with the road back to title contention beginning right here.
The 25-year-old carries a 60-21 career record into the main event, having built his reputation through an impressive run on the ONE Friday Fights circuit that earned him a US$100,000 ONE contract.
His challenge for Nadaka's ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Championship ended in a unanimous decision defeat. Standing across from him is a fighter who presents exactly the kind of test Songchainoi needs to prove he is back.
"He's definitely coming in hot. A win over me could earn him a ONE contract, push him onto the big stage, or set up a rematch with Nadaka. But we'll see what happens inside the ring," he told onefc.com.
The speed that Banluelok has displayed in recent outings has caught Songchainoi's attention during his fight preparations, and the former title challenger has already identified the adjustments he needs to make to neutralise that threat.
"He's on a great run right now. He's won two straight in kickboxing and Muay Thai. Looking at his past fights in both Muay Thai and kickboxing, he's really fast. I have to press forward and stay glued to him," he explained.
Winning on Friday night is only the first step in a carefully mapped journey that Songchainoi has been planning since his title defeat.
"Mini-Hulk" is not interested in shortcuts. He wants to build an undeniable case before stepping back into championship contention.
"The goal is still to build my way back up to Nadaka. I want to win two, three, four, or five fights in a row first, so nobody can question it when I get that title shot again," he added.
