Saygid Izagakhmaev moves closer to taking the ONE World Title to Dagestan

Russian MMA star Saygid Izagakhmaev moved one step closer to the ONE Lightweight title after a win at ONE 163.

Saygid Izagakhmaev, the fourth-ranked lightweight challenger, put on an outstanding performance and destroyed former ONE Lightweight World Champion and Japanese icon Shinya Aoki to win via technical knockout in round one.

At the ringing of the bell, Aoki made various threats with kicks, but Izagakhmaev waited patiently for an opportunity. The end began when the Russian dropped Aoki with a resounding right hand down the middle. With numerous left and right hands, Izagakhmaev accomplished the finish. Izagakhmaev received a bonus of $50,000 for his victory.

Saygid has been unstoppable in ONE Championship since joining the promotion. A Protégé of former UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, Saygid has been vocal about wanting the ONE Lightweight title ever since joining the promotion.

He made his promotional debut back at ONE Heavy Hitters against James Nakashima. Saygid secured a second round submission in the fight and announced his arrival. After this, the Russian went on to secure a win over Lipeng Zhang at ONE 161 and improved his winning streak to three fights.

He is now eager to get a shot at Christian Lee who recently became a two-division champion after capturing the ONE Welterweight title.

Interestingly, Christian Lee had called out Khabib Nurmagomedov in the past and recently expressed his interest in fighting UFC Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Islam, meanwhile, was in the corner of Saygid and noted that Lee needs to worry about Saygid who is probably next in line for a title shot.
