Roberto Soldic signed with ONE Championship because he wanted to challenge himself, and those ambitions are swiftly being realised.
His chances appeared gloomy when he was born in 1995 in the midst of a civil conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina. But now, Soldic has the opportunity to represent himself, his country, and his heritage on a global broadcast live from the United States.
The sold-out show at Colorado's 1stBank Center is ONE's debut on American territory.
It's a historic night for both the promotion and Soldic, who will square off against a former ONE Welterweight World Champion in this high-stakes MMA bout.
“My manager called me and said, ‘You’re fighting in America against Zebaztian Kadestam, a former World Champion.’ I have to fight. I never choose any opponent,” he told in an interview with ONE Championship.
It is a dream come true moment for Soldic.
“This is a motivation for me because I came from a small village in Bosnia, and now I’m fighting on the world stage in the USA. This is a really big thing for my people, my country, and me. I fought everywhere in Europe. And now, it’s time to go deeper and go to a different world, like the USA and Asia,” he said.
Soldic knows the atmosphere inside 1stBank Center will be electrifying for this historic event, and he wants to provide a performance worthy of the occasion.
With thousands in attendance and many more watching from around the world, he's hoping to live up to the anticipation and demonstrate why ONE signed him as the most sought-after free agent in MMA.
“I always try to put on good pressure and finish the guy with my skills. I hope I have shown that with what I did before in KSW and in Cage Warriors. I cannot wait for this one, especially because it’s in the USA. I’m very excited. I am going to try to show my U.S. fans who I am and why they call me ‘Robocop,” he said.
