After a 28-month hiatus, Indian MMA fighter Ritu Phogat is set to make her comeback in an atomweight showdown against Japan’s Ayaka Miura on February 20 at the Lusail Multipurpose Hall in Qatar.
Phogat, who holds a 7-3 record, gained recognition for her ground-and-pound technique. Miura, a third-degree black belt in judo, has a 14-5 professional record and is currently riding a three-fight win streak.
Phogat’s MMA journey began in 2019 with a TKO victory, followed by four consecutive wins. She suffered a split-decision loss to Bi Nguyen but bounced back with three straight victories before facing defeat against Stamp Fairtex and Tiffany Teo, both by submission. These losses, including a shoulder injury from Fairtex’s armbar, led Phogat to reassess and focus on improving her skills, especially her ground game.
Since her last fight, Phogat has embraced a new chapter as a mother while balancing rigorous training under coach Siyar Bahadurzada. She worked diligently to regain her physical strength and conditioning after childbirth, aided by her consistent fitness routine during pregnancy.
Phogat is set to face Miura, who is known for her striking abilities, with the aim of securing a successful return to competitive MMA.
